Sunday School

Our Sunday School classrooms are bursting with energy, excitement, and true Bible learning! Every week students hear the Good News of Christ! Classes are available for children ages 2 years through High School Youth. At all age levels we have loving and devoted teachers sharing the Love of our Lord Jesus Christ and the Good News of Salvation. At Gloria Dei children’s learning actually starts during Sunday worship services. Children are active participants during worship with activities, such as children’s sermons. We offer bulletins geared for children so that the Gospel is presented in a way that children can better relate their faith to God’s Word.

Sunday School has always been the time when children begin to build on the Bible stories that families have been teaching them. The children grow in their understanding of these stories and discover more about the meaning of God’s Word. This is another opportunity for your child’s faith to continue to form; as well as discovering more about the life of Jesus and our relationship with Him. We want Sunday School to be a time of celebration and discovery.

Vacation Bible School

Each summer we get ready for a fun-filled week as we join together for VBS. Children will celebrate God’s love through wacky skits, fun songs and activities. VBS 2014 is already in the planning stages for early June — watch for announcements.

Confirmation Class

Confirmation begins for a child in 7th and 8th grade. Confirmation is an opportunity for children to learn the chief teachings of Scripture and to grow in their faith. As well as being a two-year course of study, in preparation for becoming a communicant member, the intent of Confirmation is to develop within the child a deepening appreciation of the opportunity to hear and study God’s Word, and to help set the life-long patterns for regular worship and continued growth in Bible Study that are so important for a healthy spiritual life.

The 200,000 member volunteers around the world are daily dedicating their lives to making a difference in this world. The mission of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League is to assist each woman in affirming her relationship with the Triune God so that she is enabled to use her gifts in ministry to the people of the world. The LWML focuses on richer spiritual living, and avenues for God-blessed service.

Altar Guild

The Gloria Dei Altar Guild was organized 40 years ago and its mission is simple: to serve. The Altar Guild is responsible for the preparation to make sure our place of worship is maintained and set up for the time and season of the church year. We serve with the placement of the paraments, with the liturgical colors for a season or festival. We also plan for flowers to adorn the altar. A chart for donations of flowers is in the hallway leading to the Pastor’s office. We organize the chili supper on the event of the Christmas Tree decorating (in coordination with the LWML). We also make individual banners for the confirmands, and organize a fellowship providing desserts and drink.

We serve the Lord with gladness, and pray that our service will remain faithful, with honor and praise of His most holy name.

Youth Ministry

We are committed to empowering youth to use their gifts and energies in service to God and His people as they celebrate their faith in Jesus Christ. When a builder starts to build a house, a solid foundation is essential. So it is with our lives. Without Jesus Christ as the solid foundation for our lives, we will have nothing on which to stand and will crumble. Christ needs to be the center of all we are and do. So, it is with Youth Ministry as well. We base our approach on the Great Commission in Matthew 28:19-20 which says to “Go and make disciples” and also on the Great Commandment in Matthew 22:37-40 which says to “love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind, and love your
neighbor as yourself.” This is the basis of Youth Ministry at Gloria Dei Lutheran. We focus our Youth Ministry on five ministry areas: discipleship, worship, service, outreach, and fellowship.
